Stean joined St Barbara in 2008 and was appointed General Manager Transformation (Operations) in 2020. Stean assisted in the re-commissioning and start-up of the Gwalia Mill, and has subsequently held various managerial roles including Manager Processing at Gwalia, Manager Mining and Acting General Manager at Marvel Loch and General Manager Gold Ridge Operations.
Stean was appointed General Manager Technical Services and Business Development in 2015, providing technical support to operations at both Leonora and Simberi and executing St Barbara’s growth strategy. In 2018 Stean also assumed responsibility for the Health, Safety, Environment and Community functions. Stean was appointed General Manager Leonora Operations in early 2019.
Before joining St Barbara, Stean completed managerial training with Anglogold-Ashanti working up to Process Manager level. Stean also gained exposure to project execution working with firms providing engineering solutions to the mining industry. Stean has experience working in diverse environments as West Africa, Southern Africa, Australia and the Pacific and has been exposed to commodities including gold, uranium, diamonds and iron ore.
